THE INSTITUT CATALÀ DEL PEU CARRIES OUT A PIONEERING STUDY OF THE SERVICE OF TENNIS WITH DIVERSE BIOMECHANICAL TECHNOLOGIES.
The Institut Català del Peu, through Fitmetric, its Department of Sporting Biomechanics, carries out a series of physical tests and biomechanical analysis of the tennis service with 3 different biomechanical technologies at the same time to 24 tennis players of the Catalan Tennis Federation, which is a part of a pioneering plan in Spain.
Fitmetric, by the Institut Català del Peu and the Catalan Tennis Federation, have a collaboration agreement in order to carry out biomechanical and physical tests to tennis players, apart from giving the training of biomechanics in several courses which the Federation provides. The main goal is getting the parameters of the performance of the tennis player through which Fitmetric is developing a pioneering and innovative plan for tennis. A part of this work was to carry out the biomechanical analysis with 3 technologies at the same time, considering the movement in order to study the peculiarities of every system and being able to use that one which gives us the information in a quickest way and also in a reliable way.
In the month of September these analyzes have taken place with the collaboration of Bioergon, the team of biomechanics research and control motor from Cáceres Sport Science Faculty. Bioergon has given us a useful system called Xsens, which is a system that measures starting from accelerations. Fitmetric has showed up a system through cameras and scoreboards and also a technology through inertial sensors.
The tennis players carried out a series of physical tests and a series of services where they were measured with different biomechanical parameters through these three systems which they carried at the same time. As we have mentioned before, the main goal was the catchment of information from different systems, in order to use quick data through inertial sensors, checking that the information matches up. The results will be published on scientific studies by Bioergon, together with Fitmetric, and the codes, the techniques of necessary data processing will be developed, as well as the development of tools in order to be able to visualize quickly the biomechanical data achieved as secondary goals. However, these secondary goals are the ones which will make from Fitmetric’s work a pioneering and innovative plan in the world of tennis. This is something we have been working since two years ago very closely with the trainers from the Catalan Tennis Federation and we are very grateful for becoming this plan reality.
Like happen in all sports, data are those things which make to understand trainers the way how sportsmen/sportswomen can improve. And this is one of the goals of Fitmetric as a plan approached on innovation in sport from biomechanical data.
After some years analysing parameters of the service, listening to trainers and tennis players, we have been progressing in our way of the obtaining and representation of data in tennis, sparking off the development of tools and techniques of acquisition of data, like its representation in Motion Track, which will be a very specific tool in tennis and in other sports where Fitmetric has a professional career.
